Does anyone know if Blizzard helped
the conceptual artists on this one? No, no-- But seriously, did
anyone get Diablo II deja vu' while watching The Mummy Returns?
I mean, it's deeper than the 2nd-world’s Egyptian theme... To
be perfectly honest, it was the "Fetish" creatures in the move
that convinced of the movie’s ties to DII. I wonder if they were
specifically told not to make the Army of Anubis/Scorpion King
look deader than they did --- They might look too much like the
Greater Mummies -- Oh yes... Something is rotten in the state
of Universal. (And it might not be the Rock’s/Digital Rock’s 3
min. cameo.) I just want to know when someone is going to make
a Diablo II to Mummy II total conversion. Please give me your
conspiracy theories on this subject.
On the subject of the movie, I’ll give it D+. Ludicrous action
and great one-liners are complemented by the oh-so-too-digital
look of the special effects in this over-the-top, over-budgeted
B-Movie. (Those are the good points.) It would have gotten a better
score if the story line wasn’t, well… in a word, bad. Action-oriented
B-Grade movies like this shouldn’t need a map. Here’s point A,
lets go to point B. Only on rare occasions is there need for a
point C. There shouldn’t be any need for points X, Y, or Q… A-B-End-Roll
Credits. The whole past life thing simply didn’t work for me,
and while the movie did have ties to the first movie, I found
myself thinking marketing ploy. Whose Idea was it to have the
Big-Bad Mummy back? It was supposed to be DEAD and gone! Surely
there are other nefarious mummies writers can make up (hell, why
not just the “Scorpion King”). Anyway, even with all of its giant
potholes, I got through it, and no, I won’t buy it on DVD.
Did
The Mummy live in two bodies? Or did I miss something? I know
they dug something up--like a shard of amber--Where’d they get
the second body? And where’d they get his girl friend? (Next time--
Here’s point A, lets go to point B- End, please.) And who were
those bad guys opposing the Magi? I have the feeling they’re already
into production on the third installment- D’oh! Why did I like
this picture? Hmm… No mediclorians! (Please forgive me on that
spelling… I’m no Star Wars aficionado after Ep. I) And I love
those crazy one-liners!
