Gaming Computers

Evolution
Type: Sci-fi Comedy.

Notable stars: David Duchovny, Julianne Moore, Orlando Jones, Seann William Scott.

Overall Rating: B-
(Lasting impression of the film.)

Artistic Integrity: B+
(Visual appeal such as set design, costumes, color coordination, etc.)

Sound Quality: C
(music, ambient sounds, voice acting, etc.)

Meat & Bones: B
(All other aspects of a movie, such as plot, or ability to keep my
attention.)

On to the review:

I really liked this movie, although I kept getting this sense of
DejaVu. The aliens are mostly done with computers and look a great deal like a
cross between MIB's creepers and the computer-game Evolva's crawlies. I also
kept wondering if the aliens could be related to the hagunennons of the
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy saga. (They had overactive completely
chromosomes.) I think they got a couple of the extras from Jurassic
Park III in this movie; one of them is a big dinosaur with wings. It had
two notable scenes. But my favorite alien of the bunch only got one
scene...
The sad eyed blue creature... Why? Watch the movie. There also were
some suspect similarities to Ghostbusters...

The good:

David Duchovny will never escape his 'Mulder' origins. This is not a
bad thing. Mulder is who he is and will probably stay that way. He is the
Skywalker of the X-files. So that bearing in mind-- he once again
plays a Mulder-esk role, in which the government has a bone to pick with him.
I've always thought that Mulder was a little arrogant and in this movie, he
shows it by hoarding (or trying to) the asteroid he and Prof Orlando Jones
found.

If you've seen Orlando Jones' 7up commercials, you basically know his
performance. Take that and add a dash of Peter Vankman and you have
his character. He plays a professor of Geology and the girls volley ball
coach. I basically liked his character... Though I found the anal jokes a bit
much.

Last seen in "Dude, Where's My Car," Seann William Scott plays yet
again the same character in different setting. A mindless fire fighter, who
apparently likes to make an ass of himself, and I feel that it works
completely.

The bad:

Then that brings us to Julianne Moore, who is a poor substitute for
Scully. ;] (Shudder-- Hannibal…) She plays an up-tight government agent, who
continually fails at physical comedy. I didn’t laugh once at her silly
antics… Not once. They should have had Jenny McCarthy play her roll.
At least when she knocks into something, she gives all of her brutish
force, and it looks like she gets hurt… That always makes me laugh.

The just plain uggally boogally:

If the camera adds 10 pounds to the actors on stage... Lets start this
paragraph over---there are two dumb, fat guys who serve only one purpose in
the movie. Is it me, or do dumb wastes of space make you nervous on a
movie screen. Only near the end do these "creatures" show any intelligence,
and serve a purpose in the movie, but then it turns out to be a really
blatant product placement. I mentioned the jokes about ass, right? The bottom line: Evolution is a good movie, but probably will not be memorable in the grand scheme of movies. In a few years, people will still remember MIB, and will scoff at Evolution. But if you have the cash and are looking for a light hearted sci-fi romp, this is your stop.
