A LAN in Review by yodataco What happened at the May 2005 Carolina ARMAGEDDON! you ask? Where do we start? Things started a little slow at this party, but sometimes that's ok. Many fraggers arrived early, and most were ready by 10:00 am. A good amount of free play got underway early with many gamers playing Counter Strike: Source. There were also several gamers playing a plethora of Xbox games. There were many other matches of other games like Tribes: Vengeance, Soldier of Fortune II, etc. Prizes were plentiful at this Carolina ARMAGEDDON!, and everyone went home with something! The prizes were on display early on, with many gamers ogling at them.
Vivendi Universal Games had a major hand in many of the prizes with their sponsorship of this Carolina ARMAGEDDON! They provided eight copies each of Swat 4, Delta Force Extreme and Empire Earth 2. They also provided several other games along with the massive batch already listed! Several other prizes that were given out included free admissions to the next Carolina ARMAGEDDON!, a Sword Case from Doctor Virus , and an extremely large bucket of cheese balls. A set of Altec Lansing headphones were provided by Carolina Custom Computers, plus a window kit from DesignMyPC. A very fun fact about this Carolina ARMAGEDDON! is that one of our youngest gamers to make it to a party was there and holding his own with all the older, more seasoned, gamers! Everyone give a round of applause to Lefty's son (a.k.a. “wizkid”). If you didn't notice him he was the one sporting the “Property of Lefty” T-Shirt. We always express the family nature of our parties, and this shows how true that sentiment is!
The tournaments were absolutely astonishing for a single day event! We had a total of four tournaments, and almost everyone was involved in at least one tournament. Our first tourney kicked off at around 11:30 . This tournament was the “Mystery Tournament”. It was a “Round-Robin” of three games with a team of two for all three games. The catch was that the team consisted of one person using the mouse and the other using the keyboard on the same computer! The games played were Unreal Tournament, Call Of Duty, and Soldier of Fortune II. This proved to be extremely fun for the people playing, and extremely amusing to those watching! The deadly team of MacX (Xavior and benmac) ruled the day. The two tournaments that were played throughout the day were Need for Speed: Underground 2 and Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2! These tournaments both had a great amount of action with the Need for Speed tournament even drawing many gamers to watch on the big screen!
SkitzoMike took home the honors as top dog at racing and [CCGA]Spectere re-affirmed his crown as RA2 champ. The final tournament of the day was Counter Strike: Source 5 vs. 5. Four teams entered the tournament and all of them fought valiantly! One team came out victorious! "Winning Streak" made up of Malevolent, GF, Xavior, benmac75 and AoWs|-Smooth Adam-.
The May Carolina ARMAGEDDON! then went into cruise control with many people playing several games during the free play time that was left. Birthday cake for the many birthdays being celebrated in May was provided by SueZQ, and was quite yummy! Pizza was also brought in by the CCGA and the gamers rejoiced! After all our stomachs were full a lot of gamers settled in for several hours worth of COOP Joint Ops missions, Empire Earth II games, and some UT2004. Believe it or not, we forgot the typical SOFII wrap-up free-for-all. As the party came to a close the Bitter End prizes were given out (1 Free admission to the next party, and the Sword Case from Doctor Virus) and a little more gaming was done before everyone packed up at 10:00pm to call it a night. All-in-all, another great Carolina ARMAGEDDON! A huge thank you to Vivendi Universal Games, Doctor Virus, Bawls, and our other sponsors for helping make this Carolina ARMAGEDDON! as good as it was! Our next Carolina ARMAGEDDON! is in July and will be an overnight party. We expect to see a large turnout, so let's get signed up and paid! Click here to register for the July 16th -17th Carolina ARMAGEDDON!
